Pet Shop Boys return with a concept album created hand in hand with Andrew Hodges, biographer of the English mathematician Alan Turing. ‘A Man From The Future’ will be available on October 9 and will be structured into eight chapters, each one dedicated to a stage in Turing’s life.
After the release of ‘Nonetheless’, the British duo dares with what they describe as “a musical monument to Alan Turing, who gave so much to his country and the world and was rewarded by being persecuted for his sexuality.” The same idea occurred to Hidrogenesse in 2012 and it didn’t turn out badly, with Rockdelux magazine naming it Record of the Year.
They remember Turing’s “incredible contribution” to the defeat of the Nazis in the Second World War in the field of technology, but also how he “wanted to live in a time when being gay was normal”: “In both his private and professional life, he was ahead of his time,” Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe have declared.
‘A Man From The Future’ will be composed of songs, spoken word and orchestral and electronic music, and will tell a story chronologically, from Turing’s childhood days to his role in the invention of the digital computer.
