The White House continues its strategy of using pop songs for its political videos. Recently, Katy Perry and Kesha have denounced the use of their songs by the Donald Trump Administration. Interestingly, many of the artists who are coming out to speak are women.
The latest affected is Zara Larsson and her hit ‘Midnight Sun’, and the Swede has decided to speak, but not by posting a short tweet, but speaking directly to the camera. «I’m sad, really. “This makes me very sad,” he begins. Larsson says he would like to talk to whoever made the video to remind him that “you and I are not that different,” nor are the people in it. “The only difference is that we have been dealt different cards in life.”

The singer uses her own life as an example. She is grateful to have been born in Sweden, where she has had healthcare and education, can travel and do “all these amazing things.” «That’s luck. “A lot of it is luck,” he says. And remember that there are people who have not been that lucky and who simply want a better life for their families.
Larsson does not understand that being an undocumented immigrant can be presented as “the worst thing in the world.” Talking about immigration policy, he says, “is fine,” but “this is not that.” For her, the problem is that the video is “so dehumanizing.” “They are real people,” he insists, noticing one of the men who appears in construction clothes. “He’s working.” Undocumented people, remember, are “normal people with jobs trying to have a better future.”
He also criticizes that everything is turned into a meme and a joke, especially using a song that is “about connecting with nature, people and the universe.” “This video creates a huge division among people,” he says. And he concludes without too many twists: “It’s fucking uncool. “You’re fucking losers, it’s crazy.”
