Banin, a member of Los Planetas between 1997 and 2024, also known for the side project Los Pilotos, is going to release his first solo album in early 2027 on Mushroom Pillow. As El Mundo progresses, it will be an incendiary album that will clearly reference his traumatic departure from Los Planetas.
The artist claims that he found out that he was out of Los Planetas when he saw the concert posters for the ‘Súper 8’ tour, a 1994 album on which he did not play. Drummer Eric, who was also not invited to that tour, later joined the group. But not so Banin, who now states: «In Los Planetas there was never much communication. Everything was talked about from third parties and those third parties were not interested in talking about the subject either.
He continues: «Excluding us from ‘Super 8’ was a pretty ugly move and it is the type of move that someone makes because they can and because they have superiority on the board and because they know that the opposing party has no weapons to defend themselves. I’m not going to judge him because the public and the press have done enough. I stayed away from that debate because it hurt me and almost everything I want to say is on the record. “I wanted my way of explaining myself to be with songs.”
Banin’s first single is called ‘Pripyat’ – a reference to Chernobyl – and can be heard shortly, while the album receives the funny name ‘Pluto is no longer a planet’. El Mundo asks about a series of explicit lyrics that seem directed at Jota, such as “what you have done to me cannot be named / there is no word that can come close” or “Pig that has tasted blood, always wants more.” And Banin responds that he was not inspired by a single person to write the album. Although he adds: «Anyone who has had a bastard boss is going to identify 100% with me and my songs. I have tried to ensure that they can serve people who have nothing to do with The Planets.
Finally, he talks about his good acceptance as a member of Carolina Durante’s tour and how good he feels with them. Which he attributes to the mental health work that the new generations do: «For me, having harmony in a successful group is something wonderful. I have never seen that in Los Planetas. I suppose there is a key factor and that is that the new generations are better prepared emotionally. We had no emotional education of any kind. “We went out there and had to manage as best we could.”
