Big Debut on Spotify for Madonna’s ‘Confessions II’

‘CONFESSIONS II’ promises to give Madonna a lot of joy. For now, it is shaping up to be the great “comeback” that it already seemed destined to be. The album has started with 13,068,922 plays on Spotify during its first full day of availability, making Madonna the female solo artist who emerged in the 80s with the biggest debut in history on the platform. The figure also represents a huge jump compared to ‘Madame X’, which debuted with 4.4 million views on its first day on Spotify in 2019, practically tripling that record.

In addition, she marks the second best debut for a soloist whose career began before 2000, only behind Shakira, whose ‘Las mujeres ya no Llorn’ registered 13,483,491 streams.

Although ‘I Feel So Free’, ‘Bring Your Love’ and ‘Love Sensation’ had an advantage having been previously released as previews, several unreleased songs have stood out from day one. The most listened to among them has been ‘Danceteria’, which, having been chosen as the focus track, added 1.87 million views in its first 24 hours and debuted directly in the top 60 of Spotify Global, becoming Madonna’s first solo debut on this list.

In addition, the release also boosts listening to ‘Bring Your Love’, alongside Sabrina Carpenter, which returns to number 166 in the global ranking.

As for specific markets, ‘Confessions II’ fails to rank within Spotify’s Top 200 in the United States. However, ‘Danceteria’ debuts at number 44 in the United Kingdom, number 72 in Brazil, number 163 in Germany and number 171 in France. In Spain, the song enters right at number 200, although there is a song from the album that is ahead: the urban collaboration ‘Read My Lips’, with Feid, debuts at number 130.

As for global listening to the rest of the unreleased songs, after ‘Danceteria’, ‘Read My Lips’, with Feid (990,852), ‘One Step Away’ (913,210), ‘Bizarre’, with Martin Garrix (901,444), and ‘Good For The Soul’ (898,274) stand out in particular.

They are followed by ‘Everything’ (742,112), ‘Love Without Words’ (658,110), ‘My Sins Are My Savior’, with Stromae (631,123), ‘School’ (621,041) and ‘Fragile’ (564,895). ‘Betrayal’ (465,524), ‘The Test’, along with Lola Leon (433,683), and ‘LES Girl’ (411,706) close the classification.

The commercial behavior of ‘CONFESSIONS II’ outside of streaming now remains to be known. The album has been released in a large number of formats and physical variants, so the sales figures for its first week will be especially relevant to measure the global impact of the release.
