The Barcelona singer-songwriter Victor Party takes a step forward with his first solo release, after a widely recognized career leading the band Game and, later, as co-leader of the supergroup Riders Of The Canyon.
Composed of Victor Partywith lyrics co-written with David Gimenez (Joana Serrat, Riders Of The Canyon, Pumuky), “That Inner Spark” is produced by Gimenez and co-produced by Ferran Orriols —who also participates as an instrumentalist.
The piece displays a warm and intimate folk landscape, characteristic of the writing of Victor. Sonically, it evokes the solo albums of Neil Halstead (Slowdive, Mojave 3), as well as kindred spirits such as Nick Drake and Damien Jurado.
Precisely, the mixing of this song has been carried out by the American engineer Alex Bush —known for his work on albums Jury as “The Horizon Just Laughed”, “In the Shape of a Storm” and “Reggae Film Star”—, who also provides additional instrumentation.
The master’s degree was carried out by the Grammy-nominated engineer Jessica Thompsonwhose credits include work with Kurt Vile, Patti Smith, Lou Reed and Woody Guthrie.
The song “That Inner Spark” talks about that moment when you stop resisting yourself and reality as you perceive it — shaped by external noise, by everything that surrounds you and that tells you what you should be doing at all times.
For Víctor, “the song revolves around the change that accompanies that awakening—that almost imperceptible movement: an internal realignment, a fitting together of pieces, after which the ghosts that previously haunted you begin to fade.”
Victor Party —along with other representative artists of the label Great Canyon Records— will present this and other songs on Friday May 29 in the Upload room of Barcelona, within Great Canyon Records 10th Anniversary Celebration Party, Thanks to Curtcircuit.
