Zahara takes out her nails for her friend in ‘Tus michis’

Zahara will release her new album, ‘Lento ternura’, in the first quarter of 2025, almost 4 years after her masterpiece, ‘PUTA’. It will be a very different album, according to what was heard in the two presentation singles, ‘I only wanted to write a love song’ and now ‘Tus michis’. This is our Song of the Day today.

The artist held a party in Madrid last Thursday, where she performed ‘Tus michis’ for the first time. T-shirts with the theme were given away, cat-themed songs were played, and a bingo was held in which the numbers were songs about cats. However, there is an obvious point of darkness in this production that, like the previous single, was made by Zahara alone.

‘Tus michis’ seems like a fun song, made for the meme, a complete contrast to ‘PUTA’: some sampled cats sing, and they constitute the chorus, no less. But this is not ‘Caída libre’ featuring Yola Berrocal, and there is a sinister point, deployed in several senses, starting with those details of industrial percussion in a bridge.

On the one hand, Zahara once again recognizes a lack of courage if it is to defend herself (“I don’t know how to fight for myself, I can’t stand there and say “Don’t screw up my life””). Nor does he consider himself, apparently, a “good” person or the best “example” (“I have left my son with you, so that he may see purity, so that he may have the example of a good person”).

On the other hand, she is capable of gathering courage if it is to help a friend and defend her. If Zahara does her nails in the video, it is not to paint them: “I nail them to anyone who dares to tell you that you are not worth it.” The singer has written a long text to explain that this friend is the writer La Benito (Patricia Benito), how they met, and the importance it has had in her career. The album will revolve around the idea of home and, to see what degree of light and shadow that implies, we will have to wait a couple of months. Zahara’s letter:

«The Benito came into my life in a yoga class.

In a relaxation exercise, we looked at each other and started laughing out loud without anyone understanding anything. Even we didn’t know it very well, but still, I felt that she and I shared something unique that only we could understand.

During these years, it has been part of many moments of my life. He has helped me with my moves, he has held my hand in situations of real weakness, he has listened to my songs before they existed, he has taken care of my son whenever I have needed him, he has slept next to me, he has lent me his books, He picked me up from the station, he got drunk with me. I remember her on the other end of the phone during the pandemic, when we had video conferences and we took each other from room to room until we forgot in the refrigerator.

One day she wrote to me, devastated, because she had received bad news from someone important to her, and I thought it wasn’t fair. I felt all the anger for her that I had never been able to feel towards myself. I realized that, for Benito, I would do whatever it took. I took all that energy of fury and love and, as if I were a superhero created just for my Patricia, I began to use all the weapons I had for my revenge: I made a song. But it didn’t end up being a song of rage, although at first it seemed like this character with impossible nails was going to end up cutting heads.

What I ended up writing was a love song.
‘Tus michis’ is a love song to La Benito.

It’s a love song for kitties, even if I’m dying of allergies.
It is a song about that magical force that we don’t know we have inside, but that appears when we have to fight for our friends.
It’s a wonderful song, really, because, in addition to all that, it’s a song sung—literally—by michis.

When I finished ‘Tus michis’, I understood that this new album was going to take me to a beautiful place, where not only was there a turquoise refuge and an escape from the hustle and bustle, but Lento Ternura was home. It was the huge, pure heart of one of the most incredible women I have ever met. It was his company on the other end of the phone and the contagious laughter from the other room.

The best of the month:
