‘yes baby’: much more than Madison Beer’s “flirty” song

Without having managed to enter the Billboard Hot 100 and without going beyond the top 50 in the UK, ‘Make You Mine’ is one of those songs that continue to grow on the Internet little by little. It already has 300 million streams in all its synthetic appeal. It was written by Madison Beer and Leroy Clampitt.

The duo repeats – along with Lostboy’ – in one of the two singles that Madison Beer has published this year, ‘yes baby’. The other is ‘bittersweet’, more melancholic, which is about “the end of a stage”, as portrayed in their recently released post-breakup video.

But it is ‘yes baby’, which came out last month, that we selected as Song of the Day for this Thursday. It is an electropop song that she herself defines simply as “a fun and flirty song.”

Likewise, Madison Beer acknowledges how much her Olivia Newton-John/Dua Lipa-esque “80s gym”-inspired video has added: “After we shot the music video, it took on a whole new energy, and it just feels like a song you want to blast with your friends.” It’s very seen, yes, but a little more verve and the song would be ‘Swastika Eyes’ by Primal Scream.

The lyrics talk about a “dangerous type of infatuation”, in which the ultimate meaning of “yes baby yes baby yes baby yes” is somewhat ambiguous. Surrender? Absolute pleasure?

These three Madison Beer songs will be included in an album called ‘locket’, which goes on sale on January 16 and will include 11 songs. At the moment only these 3 titles are known:
2.-yes baby
8.-bittersweet
10.-make you mine
