Janet Jackson has shared one of the most tense wardrobe incidents of her career, potentially on par with what happened with Justin Timberlake at the 2004 Super Bowl. This time, in front of Queen Elizabeth II.
The anecdote came up in an interview with Vogue, while discussing the singer’s most iconic looks. At one point, she refers to a black military-style suit she wore to receive her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1990. She also said she wore a similar outfit when she was invited to perform for Queen Elizabeth II around the same time.
“We were doing ‘Rhythm Nation,’ and as soon as I squatted down, my pants ripped right at my butt crack,” Jackson said. She “couldn’t believe it was happening,” but began to “feel air down there, so I knew it had really happened.”
However, he managed to adapt to the choreography so as not to flash the queen: “I never turned my back to her, which was required in some parts of the choreography. I just looked straight ahead… Imagine if I had shown her that for just one second,” he concluded.
