Chappell Roan continues to sweep the charts this year with ‘Good Luck, Babe!’, which has led to a resurgence of his entire debut album, released in 2023. Indeed, up to 6 songs from that ‘The Rise & Fall of a Midwest Princess’ have made it into the charts this year.
When we were going through them all, someone in the comments section wondered what the artist was up to: a second album or a deluxe edition? There was no suggestion as to which era of Chappell Roan we are in, whether it is the first or the second. Now her manager, Nick Bobetsky, has clarified this in conversation with Music Business Worldwide.
From an interview with MBW, it appears that Chappell Roan will continue to release singles, imitating the campaign of ‘The Rise & Fall’, which saw up to 9 singles released in advance: “She’s busy writing. I think it’s very likely that we’ll follow a very similar plan to what we did with the other album, which is that when she finishes a song that she loves, we’ll get going and release it right away. That’s what was done with ‘Good Luck, Babe’.”
As for a new album, she says, “Chappell Roan is absolutely an album artist. I think that’s what people want from her. And I don’t think that diminishes the impact of the singles (…) There’s a big debate about how an album is constructed these days. Sometimes putting out an album without any singles before it can also have a lot of impact. But I think right now Chappell wants to feel free to put out music as soon as she has it ready. And I think that’s what the fans want, too.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Nick explains that Chappell Roan isn’t abusing collaborations, that marketing is a different thing for her than for other artists, and talks about how she’s connected with a new queer generation.
