This Wednesday, August 14th, it will be released in theaters “The Sweet East”. Film directed by debutant Sean Price Williams and starring, among others, Earl Cave -son of musician Nick Cave-. Don’t miss the preview clip that we’re releasing today on our website.
Lillian is a young high school student who runs away during a school trip. In this picaresque journey that reminds us of a mischievous Alice in Wonderland, the young girl will discover a world made up of surprising characters such as neo-Nazis, skinheads, unrepentant sexists, amateur film directors or young conspiracy theorists. This is the idea that this film starts from to offer us a completely different road movie that you can enjoy from this coming August 14 in theaters and of which we now offer you this clip exclusively for Mondo Sonoro:
After its successful run at festivals such as Cannes, we find ourselves before the debut of the prestigious director of photography Sean Price Williams (regular collaborator of cult directors such as the Safdies or Abel Ferrara) with a script written by his friend Nick Pinkerton. In addition “The Sweet East” It features a cast of young talents including Talia Ryder (‘Never Rarely Sometimes Always’), Jacob Elordi (‘Euphoria’, ‘Saltburn’, ‘Priscilla’), Ayo Edebiri (‘The Bear’), Simon Rex (‘Red Rocket’) and Earl Cave (son of Nick Cave), among others.
About “The Sweet East” Director Sean Price Williams himself has commented that: “I’d rather describe the film as ‘novelistic’ or ‘picaresque’ in style – with touches of adventure novels like ‘Moll Flanders’, Thackeray’s satirical novels or ‘The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn’ – although that’s not entirely accurate either, because I see Lillian learning things throughout the film, something a true rogue doesn’t do. Perhaps it’s also in the style of ‘The Charterhouse of Parma’. The way Lillian moves between all these different worlds with their very different customs and beliefs is a bit like that of Stendhal’s adventurer moving between the different courts and kingdoms of pre-unified Italy.”
