Tulsa, National Prize for Current Music 2024

Tulsa is the winner of the 2024 National Prize for Current Music awarded by the Ministry of Culture and Sports through the National Institute of Performing Arts and Music (INAEM), reports RTVE.

Miren Iza wins the award mainly thanks to her work on her latest album, ‘Amadora’ (2023), one of the Best Albums of 2023. In the words of the jury, “an outstanding album with lyrics of deep lyrical depth and a poetic sensibility built from customs to vindicate and give voice to women less represented in society.”

Of Tulsa’s career, the jury of the National Prize for Current Music highlights “his enormous influence on Spanish music in recent years thanks to a unique and personal way of composing and singing.” In addition, he highlights the way in which Tulsa “has marked several generations of bands and artists” working “often outside the media spotlight and creating from absolute independence.”

Tulsa has written some of the most beautiful and poignant songs in Spanish pop, highlighting ‘Autorretrato’ (2021), and in his career albums such as ‘Ése extasis’ (2021), ‘La calm chicha’ (2015) and ‘Espera la pálida’ (2009), many years before ‘Amadora’.

The National Prize for Current Music consists of a prize of 30,000 euros, which in previous years has gone to Rodrigo Cuevas, Christina Rosenvinge or Silvia Pérez Cruz.
