This Saturday, November 9, a new edition of BE MY GUEST will be held at the Sala Apolo in Barcelona. The protagonists will be Jacket of Chándal, who present a new album called ‘Flema Eterna’. As a complement to such iconic previous songs as ‘A modern resabiado no le mires el dentado’ or ‘We want to go to mass’, this album includes singles such as ‘Objetivo indiscreto’ or ‘Soy al oven’, which we selected today as Song of the Day.
‘I’m in the oven’ begins as a typical indie-rock song with a fairly Pixies riff, but in truth the love for sixties psychedelia and kraut that Argentine Natalia Brovedanni (guitar and vocals, former Santa) has always shown takes over. Rita), Alfonso Méndez (drums, ex lo:muêso) and Guille Caballero (vocals and keyboards, ex Los Surfing Sirles). Thus we find a fast-paced production that lasts up to 6 and a half minutes.
After a first half that seems like another different composition called “24 hours”, the rhythm changes accompanying an unequivocal chorus: “I’m not from here, I’m missing my ID.” In the midst of the immigration debate, and now adding Donald Trump’s second victory, ‘I’m in the Oven’ gives voice to an immigrant who “cannot participate in the political-social sphere.”
The social burden of the song is very explicit (“I don’t even know where to sleep / Every dream ends up being a disaster / Who was going to tell me? / Handing out flyers for an after party”), leading to an inevitable identity crisis: “No one knows who I have been and who I am.
By the way, the psychedelia and pop-rock project Blasser Kyren, with the Austrian Theobald Hazod at the helm, will act as opening act, with the support of Liveurope. We also leave you with his song ‘Nicht in meiner Hand’, pure Spaghetti-Western.
