In the midst of the avalanche of weekly releases it is easy for other equally interesting proposals to go unnoticed. This is the case of the Ting Tings, iconic group of the indie Sleaze, which you will surely remember for their successes ‘That’s Not My Name’, ‘Great DJ’ and ‘Shut Up and let me go’.
‘We Started Nothing’, the refreshing debut of the Ting Tings, published in 2008, contained all those singles, but the duo formed by Katie White and Jules de Martino failed to match their impact on their successive albums, which contain less and less singles recognizable by the general public. From the last commercial success of the Ting Tings, ‘Hands’, 13 years ago.
Some Anglo -Saxon pop fans will remember the single Ting Tings Single ‘Wrong Club’, but the group’s last album, ‘The Black Light’, published in 2018, aroused a reduced interest. Now, the British duo returns with a renewed sound.
‘Home’, the new album of the Ting Tings, is published on June 6 and, in case it is not clear observing its cover carved in wood, its musical proposal pulls American tradition. The duo that will deliver hip-hop style like ‘Soul Killing’, now wears his folk, country, soft-rock and mor songs; of 70s, ultimately.
‘Down’, the first single, has presented the album offering an ocean of harmonies and notes of Clavicordio, and ‘Dance on the Wire’ has thrown the road as a song of the Eagles or Carly Simon. Above all, the Fleetwood Mac sound – tan influential – is palpable in the light and catchy compositions of ‘Good People do Bad Things and’ Dreaming ‘. Clearly, albums like ‘Rumours’ have marked the path of this new era of the ting tings. No one would have said it in 2008.
