The Wuthering Heights of Rigoberta Bandini

“Dear friend: I am working on my resurrection.” Rigoberta Bandini left this message a few days ago on social networks. The return of the author of ‘Ay mama’ or ‘Perra’ to music seemed to be approaching. And from today it is a reality: Rigoberta Bandini has released ‘If I died tomorrow’, the first preview of an album that will go on sale “in 2025.”

‘If I died tomorrow’ introduces a common theme in Rigoberta Bandini’s work, her faith in God, this time to question it. “Why are you doing this to me, you bastard?” It is his challenge in the face of the inevitable reality of death, in the face of an uncontrollable desire to live. In ‘If I died tomorrow’, Rigoberta delivers a hymn for those who are with death on their heels, which goes from the personal to the universal, transmitted with her usual manners and which, consciously, “submerges in the cliché.” to tell us that “we must embrace life.”

The production of ‘If I died tomorrow’ is also 100% Rigoberta Bandini, which, under the direction of Maria Vertiz, transitions from the lullaby to the synth-pop climax… as if from the deathbed it went to heaven, in the same way that Rigoberta dies in the video clip. Rigoberta is accompanied in the chorus by a celestial choir with evident spiritual intention and, above all, Paula Ribó seeks heaven singing in an operatic register, so typical of Kate Bush that the video clip includes a tribute to that of ‘Wuthering Heights’. The video, directed by Celia Giraldo, points to three other unknown places: ‘Sad Girls’ Club’, ‘The Flea on the Couch’ and ‘Permanent Center of Gravity’.

A few days ago, Rigoberta Bandini shared a trailer in which she “welcomed” us to her new work. In the clip, Paula Ribó appears seated, levitating in the air, and sings a doo-wop sound song with an autotune filter on her voice. In the lyrics, Rigoberta seems to dedicate the album to women “who are like me” and who feel “strong like the wind.”

Rigoberta spoke briefly about her next album in an interview with El País published at the beginning of the year. Then he said he had about 45 songs on the table “with very different flavors.”

Lately, Ribó has collaborated with Love of Lesbian on the single ‘Contradicción’, with Bon Entendeur on ‘Petit bonbon’, with Colapesce and Dimartino on ‘Splash’, with Julieta Venegas on ‘Qué más da’ or with Pipiolas on ‘La Niña’. pretty’. Solo, ‘I only want love’ earned him his first Goya this year.

‘La Emperatriz’, Rigoberta’s debut, actually a compilation of all her singles, published together with a handful of unreleased songs, has now been two years.
