“We can’t wait to hear and dance to ‘Pesadillas’ at Lola Indigo’s concerts, especially at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium on March 22nd next year, which is already sold out.” That was the end of the press release Universal sent out about the release of the artist’s new single.
It was Friday the 13th and the artist took advantage of the opportunity to release one of her darkest songs. ‘Pesadillas’ featured a more emo or even metal melody, while the production beat pointed towards breakbeat or drum&bass. One of her least Latin songs, almost closer to witch-house in some points, in the end it turned out to be premonitory. Friday the 13th ended with the cancellation of all the concerts that had been scheduled at the Bernabéu until March of next year. However, Lola Indigo has assured that her show has been postponed, not cancelled.
In a message left on Instagram, the artist has been very clear about this: “The concert is not cancelled. The concert is postponed. I just spoke to my team. They were trying to find a date so as not to worry you, but the news has leaked before we can find it. (…) A link will be provided for people who have had any kind of problem, so that we can solve it. We are very sad for the fans who came from far away, but we are going to move forward.”
And she clarifies: “I will never forget how bad it was for me when WiZink was cancelled (due to the pandemic) and this is not going to be the same. We are going to fix this. We will see each other at the Bernabéu very soon.” She also sent a message of support to Aitana, her colleague Dellafuente and above all, of gratitude to her fans, for how well they were taking everything.
‘Pesadillas’ is one of those songs with long lyrics that Lola Indigo sometimes makes: it has 3 whole verses, in addition to its pre-chorus and its chorus. This, together with its dark character, prevents this from being one of Lola Indigo’s most commercial or successful songs. As an album track, however, it is quite a curiosity, especially because of that piano, again, so terrifying. Not to mention the terrifying video.
The theme is more traditional. We are dealing with a post-breakup song in which she has been left “full of scars.” Perhaps it is contradictory when she does not clarify to what extent she wants to leave this relationship behind, because after several conclusive messages about its toxicity (“if our story were a movie, it would make me cry”), the idea that he will forget her is the true “nightmare” that gives the song its title.
