The Killers’ ‘Bright Lights’ is as big as the desert

Among the new releases this weekend is a new single from The Killers. ‘Bright Lights’ is released ahead of The Killers’ eight-date Las Vegas residency, which runs from August 13-30. The Killers’ residency will focus on material from ‘Hot Fuss,’ their 2003 debut album.

‘Bright Lights’ is a release that reflects this new stage of The Killers in Las Vegas, especially in the allusion of its lyrics to a “long desert” that must take Brandon Flowers to “that place where I belong”, his home. Of course, Las Vegas is the city of origin of The Killers.

Album of the Week: The Killers / Pressure Machine

The news that ‘Bright Lights’ leaves, in addition, is that it reunites in the studio its four original members, these are, Flowers, Dave Keuning, Ronnie Vannucci Jr. and Mark Stoerme. Of course, the chosen sound is closer to The Killers’ latest works, such as ‘Pressure Machine’ (2021).

Road-ready rock and a hymn-like melody, in the style of Bruce Springsteen, define the proposal of ‘Bright Lights’ that seeks total epic, climbing onto the heartland rock sound of the band’s latest albums and, at the end, including the appearance of a gospel choir that takes the song even higher.

The Killers may not follow the surprising synth-pop style of one of their last releases, ‘Your Side of Town’, on ‘Bright Lights’, but on ‘Bright Lights’ their ability to capture emotions as big as the Las Vegas desert is still evident.
