A Dutch woman has sued The-Dream, producer of top artists such as Beyoncé and Rihanna, for rape, sexual assault and sex trafficking, in a complaint filed this Tuesday, June 4, in a California court that also cites the label. The-Dream Against Paris and Epic Records in the accusation of sex trafficking.
The woman, Chanaaz Mangroe, claims that she worked with The-Dream in 2015 with the aim of recording her first album and that the producer forced her to have sexual relations with him because it was “part of the process”, in addition to emotionally manipulating her.
In the lawsuit, Mangroe says that The-Dream, whose real name is Terius Adamu Ya Gesteelde-Diamant, repeatedly physically and sexually assaulted her and that, on one occasion, The-Dream strangled and threatened her. Mangroe says that when she reported The-Dream's abuse to her label, Epic Records, it ignored him and encouraged her to work with him again.
In the midst of The-Dream's alleged abuse of Mangroe, the complainant says, The-Dream dealt exclusively with communication with the labels and contractual decisions, while Mangroe stood aside. Mangroe claims that in 2016 he lost his contract because The-Dream, despite his relationship with Mangroe, never delivered the recordings to the label.
The-Dream has categorically denied Mangroe's allegations. “These statements are false and defamatory,” she said. «I oppose all forms of harassment and have always worked to help people achieve their professional goals. “I am a person committed to having a positive impact on my fellow artists and the world at large, and I am deeply offended and saddened by these accusations.”
The-Dream has been one of the most important producers in the United States for decades. On his resume are the productions of 'Umbrella' by Rihanna, 'Single Ladies' and 'Break My Soul' by Beyoncé, 'Baby' by Justin Bieber and 'Touch My Body' by Mariah Carey.
