The Derby Motoreta’s Burrito Kachimba concert-marathon: “It’s a dream for us”

Derby Motoreta’s Burrito Kachimba faces the most massive concert of its career. This Friday, January 24, the Ruido Award-winning Kinkidelia band will celebrate their career with a show in which they will play their three albums in their entirety and which will feature the participation of guest artists, many of them friends, such as Anni B Sweet, Ángeles Toledano, El Canijo de Jerez or Indio, drummer for Vetusta Morla.

The great concert of Derby Motoreta’s Burrito Kachimba, framed in the Inverfest program, will culminate the tour of ‘Bolsa Amarilla y Piedra Potente’, the third and final album by Derby Motoreta’s Burrito Kachimba, number 1 album in Spain. The tour has included international dates in Mexico City and London and in Spain it will continue during 2025 with dates in Valencia, Barcelona or Malaga.

A few days before the concert takes place, JENESAISPOP has been able to phone Miguel, alias Dandy Piranha, to find out some details about this show that the group has been preparing for months.

Why did you want to surround yourself with guest artists at this concert?

It is a very special date for us and we wanted to have friends nearby. It is also a way for us to reinvent the repertoire, since we are going to play all the songs from the three albums we have published.

Will the albums be played entirely in the original order, or will the setlist change depending on the song and the guest artist?

We are going to do three blocks of “kisses, whips and caresses.” The order of the songs has been chosen in service of the show, it will not follow the exact order of the albums. If it were like that, it would be boring.

How have you assigned songs and artists?

Each artist will sing the song in which we have imagined them. We have designed the repertoire imagining that all the artists who participate in the concert work with us.

Elena Gog is a dancer.

Gog does contemporary dance, he is in several companies. We have rehearsed with it so that it can be integrated into the concert, specifically in a song. It will surely be the most epic moment of the concert.

What is your favorite Anni B Sweet song from your repertoire?

He liked the last album a lot. When he came out, he wrote to us to congratulate us. I don’t know exactly which one is your favorite. We have known her for a long time, from seeing each other at festivals, and we have met many times, we have played music together and we have gotten drunk. Their collaboration in the concert has been natural. His latest album, ‘Universe to premiere’ (2019), is amazing.

And Ángeles Toledano?

We met her recently. When he heard the album he told us that it had blown him away. ‘The fountain’ is her favorite, but she will sing another one.

How does Indio de Vetusta Morla fit into the show?

Indio has just started a band, Gipsy Power Band. In his free time he dedicates himself to editing rumba and kinki albums. When Derby’s Motoreta emerged, we met and spent hours talking about ‘The Legend of Time’, Kiko Veneno… We have many tastes in common. Once, Vetusta Morla and Derby Motoreta’s met in Mexico City, Indio played with us and it is a very nice memory. It seemed natural to invite him and he accepted.

Is there a guest who surprised you by accepting the invitation?

No. We have been lucky that everyone has been available. Furthermore, some were already friends and we counted on them.

Have you encountered any challenges organizing a tremendous racket?

It is risky to get into such a large capacity, even though we in Madrid have always gotten a good response and the times we have played at La Riviera, we have filled them with solvency. For the show at the WiZink (now Movistar Arena) we have basically copied the “marathon set” format of King Wizard and the Lizzard Wizard. It’s a concert for coffee lovers, designed for fans and, if it doesn’t last three hours, it’s close. It has been a job of several months, we have been preparing it since October.

What moments from the show, apart from Elena Gog, do you think will be the most exciting?

That of Ángeles Toledano. I admire her a lot, she seems to me to be the best voice in flamenco. His voice reaches me a lot, it makes me tremble. I think it will be difficult for me not to burst into tears when I sing.

What song are you most looking forward to playing?

We are really enjoying the latest album. It has been a job that, for the first time in a long time, we have been able to carry out calmly and taking care of the details. It’s my favorite album of the three we’ve released. From this album, my favorite song is ‘The Source’, it seems to me to be the cornerstone. Above all, preparing for the concert, it has been satisfying to remember songs that were out of the repertoire of the last tours because they did not fit for reasons of space. To tell you one, ‘RGTQ’, from the album ‘Hilo negro’, is very special.

What song surprised you that the public received with special enthusiasm during the last tour?

We understand that the last one is a dense album, which comes with listening. ‘Manguara’ has been an electronic experiment, and the love it receives from the public has pleasantly surprised us. When the first seconds of synthesizer come in, people start screaming and you can tell that they are looking forward to the song starting. And when the chorus comes, they sing it crying, with their eyes closed. It’s a very nice feeling.
