The Cure’s first album in 16 years is already approaching in leaps and bounds. ‘Songs of a Lost World’, on sale on November 1, already has a tracklist, and opens, as it could not be otherwise, with the song that had already been released. ‘Alone’ was a song with an instrumental first half that had enchanted his fans, and will be track 1 of 8. This will be the total number of songs on ‘Songs of a Lost World’.
The second song we hear in the studio version of ‘Songs of a Lost World’ is ‘A Fragile Thing’. The song is one of those they had performed live, dating back to the 2022 tour.
In this case it is a mid-tempo marked both by a serious piano riff and by the typical post-punk plucks in an instrumental passage. As for the lyrics, it seems like a story of heartbreak or disagreement, made from a female perspective. ““Every time you kiss me, I could cry,” she said,” the song begins in these almost fully intoned lyrics between quotes.
As NME reports, the issue is about making the right decisions or not, even if you are very sure of them. ‘A Fragile Thing’ is about the difficulties we face in choosing between mutually exclusive needs, and how we deal with the useless regret that can follow these decisions. No matter how sure we are that the right decisions have been made, it can often be very difficult to be the person you really need to be.”
The album navigates darkness, influenced by the deaths of several of Robert Smith’s relatives, such as his father, brother and mother. We leave you with a lyric video with the lyrics in Spanish – there are several languages - and the tracklist of ‘Songs of a Lost World’.
