The Cure sweeps the UK with ‘Songs of a Lost World’, their first album in 16 years. To no one’s surprise, ‘Songs of a Lost World’ is on track to debut at No. 1 albums in the UK. Their figures at the time of writing this news exceed those of the entire top 10 combined. Specifically, 36,970 physical copies and 2,838 downloads have been shipped so far, while streaming reproductions are equivalent to 1,110 “sold” units.
‘Songs of a Lost World’ will give The Cure their first No. 1 album in 32 years. The last one went to ‘Wish’, in 1992. ‘Wish’ contained the most successful single of The Cure’s career, ‘Friday I’m in Love’. No individual track from ‘Songs of a Lost World’ appears on the official British singles chart, but that was never going to stop The Cure from triumphing with their first album in almost two decades.
The Cure have just presented ‘Songs of a Lost World’ live in London in an epic concert that has been broadcast on YouTube.
‘Songs of a Lost World’ has also been a critical success. At JENESAISPOP we have commented that in the album “a feeling of self-vindication prevails” and that “The Cure returns doing things their own way.” «After having been copied ad nauseum, The Cure reminds us that no group knows how to capture the feeling of loss of human beings as well as they do. “Songs like the devastating ‘I Can Never Say Goodbye’ or the majestic ‘All I Ever Am’ have already been worth the wait.”
‘Songs of a Lost World’ is JENESAISPOP’s Album of the Week. In the next few days, at JENESAISPOP you will be able to read reviews of several of the band’s classic albums. We remind you that both ‘Faith’ and ‘Disintegration’ were already reviewed at the time.
