The Avalanches reunite with Jamie xx in the second preview of their upcoming album, which has not yet been announced. However, the concept is becoming increasingly clear. After the excellent preview of ‘Together’, The Avalanches take us to the summery dance floor with ‘Every Single Weekend’. It’s the Song of the Day.
In both the first and this single, the Australian group has included samples from vintage advertisements. If ‘Together’ was a Toshiba commercial, ‘Every Single Weekend’ includes a brief fragment of what appears to be an advertisement for some drink. In the video clip, this is shown with a made-up brand called ‘El Dorado’.
The song itself is not as groundbreaking as its predecessor, but it could reach many more people because of how dancey it is. In the lyrics, references to the “system” and the “cost of living” appear. The Avalanches have explained that the central theme of the song is enjoyment: “Their album ‘In Color’ rekindled our passion for sampling, and this song is all about letting go, forgetting about the 9-5 routine and enjoying every weekend.”
The Avalanches and Jamie xx already collaborated on the song ‘All You Children’, from the album ‘In Waves’, with great success. However, it is worth remembering that on that same album there was already an early version of ‘Every Single Weekend’ that acted as an interlude and that was also co-produced by The Avalanches.
