Taylor Swift talks about the bad reviews of 'The Life of a Showgirl'

Taylor Swift sells 38,000 copies in Spain and achieves the double

Taylor Swift has broken an all-time record in the United States. The artist has sold the equivalent of 4 million copies in one week of ‘The Life of a Showgirl’. Thus, it leaves behind the 3.4 million copies that Adele moved in its first week with ’25’. And it has also been confirmed that the 12 songs on the album occupy the top 12 of the Billboard Hot 100. All this was already known last week, with the corresponding parentheses: the change in the rules of the game in the last 10 years, and the more than 20 different editions that have been made of this new album.

But what has happened in Spain? Our country is not one of the key ones for the artist, but we can say that the data is also very good for Taylor Swift here. The artist has achieved a direct platinum record with ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ and has also achieved the long-awaited double: number 1 in both albums and singles. Something unusual for an Anglo-Saxon artist in our country. In fact, it had been years since a song in English had reached number 1 in Spain.

JENESAISPOP has had access to Taylor’s exact data in Spain: ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ has sold the equivalent of 38,247 units in its first week. A true outrage in a country where around 2,500 copies are normally enough to reach number 1. In fact, last week Bad Bunny topped the list with 2,631 units.

Of those more than 38,000 copies, the majority correspond to the different physical editions of Taylor’s album. 32,389 have been physical or digital sales, highlighting 11,363 vinyl units. But for those who accuse Swift of being number 1 thanks to the multiple physical editions, the truth is that the album would have also been number 1 in Spain only with its streaming points. With them it reaches 5,958 equivalent copies: double what Bad Bunny is doing today.

On the other hand, the re-entry of ‘Midnights’ at number 92 reveals that this other album has sold almost 79,000 units in Spain. A figure very similar to what ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ has shipped here: 81,000 units. Both are therefore double platinum.

Taylor Swift’s numbers are very high if we compare them with other international artists:
-Taylor has sold 10 times more in 1 week than Ed Sheeran’s last one in 4 weeks (3,419 copies)
-Taylor has sold more in 1 week than Sabrina Carpenter’s last one in 6 weeks (13,743 copies)
-Taylor has sold more in 1 week than Lady Gaga’s last one in 31 weeks (21,548 copies)
-If anyone is wondering how much ‘BRAT’ has sold in Spain, it has been 27,568 copies.
-Even so, Taylor is very far from having the best-selling album in Spain in 2025: this will be Bad Bunny’s, which already exceeds 213,000 copies. Taylor will also be behind Quevedo (107,000) and possibly Aitana (66,000).

Almost more merit than all this is that Taylor Swift has managed to put her entire album in the top 100 singles, almost always taken by urban, Latin, reggaeton and lately some rock hits. Few Anglo-Saxon things tend to reach the top 100. And Taylor places the entire album exactly in these positions in Spain. An absolute success that no one knows if he can surpass with his next job:

1.-The Fate of Ophelia
11.-Opalite
16.-Elizabeth Taylor
22.-Father Figure
26.-Wish List
27.-Actually Romantic
28.-Cancelled!
33.-Eldest Daughter
34.-The Life of a Showgirl
36.-Wood
37.-Ruin the Friendship
50.-Honey
