Today Taylor Swift released the official video for the song ‘Elizabeth Taylor’, made up of clips from different films of the actress, as if it were a fan made. At the moment, like the video for ‘Opalite’, it is available exclusively on Spotify and Apple Music.
Unlike ‘The Fate of Ophelia’ and ‘Opalite’, Swift has not opted for any type of blockbuster for the ‘Elizabeth Taylor’ video clip. Instead, he has chosen to directly pay tribute to the actress with a compilation of clips taken from some of her most iconic films: ‘Cleopatra’, ‘Gigante’, ‘Father of the Bride’ or ‘A Place In The Sun’, among others. Additionally, Swift has also released the ‘So Glamorous Cabaret’ version of the song, on piano.
Many fans of the artist have not been very happy with Taylor’s move, with some, like this Popjustice user, wishing it was an “April Fools’ joke”: “Showing it!” wrote user XXX. The video for ‘Opalite’ arrived on YouTube two days after its debut on platforms, so we can expect something similar with that of ‘Elizabeth Taylor’.
On the same day, a real showgirl from Las Vegas reportedly sued Taylor for a copyright issue with the title of her latest album, ‘The Life of a Showigrl’. Thus, the lawyers of Maren Wade, who has filed the lawsuit, assure that someone who “has spent 12 years of his life building a brand should not see it disappear because someone bigger arrives.”
The complaint states that Wade, a former America’s Got Talent contestant, began writing a column in Las Vegas Weekly titled ‘Confessions Of A Showgirl’ in 2014. Since then, what began as a written piece has also become a podcast and live show, which is why Wade reportedly decided to sue Swift for copyright violation, false designation of origin and unfair competition.
