Tonight a new MTV Europe Music Awards gala was broadcast, which was held in Manchester, of course leaving some tribute to the recently reunited Oasis. Taylor Swift, the most nominated of the night, has won 3 of her 7 nominations, Best Artist, Best Video for ‘Fortnight’ with Post Malone and Best Live Performance. Swift, who is performing the last dates of the Eras Tour, thanked her fans for the awards in a video recorded from the tour. Ariana Grande and Sabrina Carpenter, with 5 nominations each, have won Best Pop Artist and Best Song, respectively.
The nine nominees performed on stage, these are Benson Boone, Le Sserafim, Peso Pluma, Pet Shop Boys, RAYE, Shawn Mendes, Teddy Swims, Tyla and The Warning. Rita Ora, host, has been very nice, she has put on dozens of different outfits and has reserved a moment to remember, very emotionally, her recently deceased collaborator and friend, Liam Payne.
Benson Boone, who opened the ceremony presenting his hits ‘Slow it Down’ and ‘Beautiful Things’, was the first winner of the night and collected the award for New Artist. The second artist to take the stage was Tyla, who sang her hits ‘Water’ and ‘Push 2 Start’, offering a performance full of choreography.

In an agile gala alternating performances and awards, with almost no moments to get bored, The Warning have offered the hard rock of ‘Automatic Sun’ on stage, and RAYE has brought his entire orchestra to perform ‘Oscar Winning Tears’ and ‘Body Dysmorphia ‘, this second in an unrecognizable version. Shawn Mendes performed with his guitar attached to sing ‘Heart of Gold’, although the microphone volume failed.
It was adorable to see Neneh Cherry and Mabel, mother and daughter, present together the award for Best Hip-Hop Artist, which was received by Eminem, another of the many nominated artists who were unable to appear in Manchester. Peso Pluma has accepted the moon for Best Latin Artist: the only nominee in this category present at the ceremony was not going to leave without an award. After Teddy Swims’ show with ‘The Door’ and his macrohit ‘Lose Control’, Olly Alexander presented the award for Best Song, which went to, as we said, Sabrina Carpenter for ‘Espresso’.
Busta Rhymes, in his first appearance at the MTV Europe Music Awards, performed and accepted the Global Icon award from Little Simz. “It’s the first time they’ve given me an MTV award,” the rapper declared. In his speech, Rhymes recalled the influence that LL Cool J, present at the gala, has had on his career and recalled his beginnings in the band Leaders of the New School.
The best performance of the night may have been that of Pet Shop Boys, who presented a futuristic montage to perform ‘All the young dudes’ and ‘West End Girls’. LE SSERAFIM, in the photo, have given choreography with their performance of ‘Chasing Lightning’ and ‘Crazy’, while Peso Pluma, dressed in a tuxedo, has shared the stage with Estevan Plazola to sing his hit ‘Hollywood’.
Among the award-winning artists is also Lola Indigo, who won the award for Best Spanish Artist.
In other genre categories, Jimin won the award for Best K-pop Artist, Calvin Harris for Best Electronic Artist, Liam Gallagher for Best Rock Artist and Tyla for Best R&B Artist.
