OT Gala 10: I’ll have to look to see

Guillo Rist’s invocation of Lady Gaga at gala 10 went well. He has danced ‘Abracadabra’ like a madman – he has sung it too, although worse – and that has been enough to save him, but not to avoid a new nomination. He competes with the very favorite Crespo, tonight on the tightrope literally by discard.

Téyou, the one expelled from the night, has shone singing ‘Je vole’ in perfect French, offering exactly the opposite of Guillo, that is, sensitivity, intimacy and drama that is a little bit Disney. 48% of the votes have not been enough to save her: her legion of lesbian fans have not mobilized enough. Or could it be that Téyou has decided to sing a song “about a farewell.”

The jury is no longer incapable of justifying any nomination, since, in its opinion, tonight all the performances have been excellent and worthy of great artists. Claudia and Guille Toledano have also been proposed for nomination, but the first has been saved by the teachers and the second, by the classmates. It was up to Tinho, the last favorite of the edition, to break the tie between Guille and Guillo.

Rist has not received any justification for his nomination (perhaps the jury did not want to revisit the issue of his vocal “effects”); Crespo yes: the jury “enjoyed his performance less” – from ‘Things I Didn’t Tell You’ – than previous nights. Claudia can go to the Academy calmly because she knows that her interpretation of ‘Birds of a Feather’ has failed in the high notes. Toledano has also been proposed as a discard, despite the fact that his vocal performance has been excellent.

Tinho, with the screaming ‘Tempestades de sal’, and thanks to his choice as favorite, since the song was in Galician and had a message, has been saved from – in my opinion – a sure nomination. Olivia’s version of ‘At Last’ has been debated between the newly learned technique and the sensuality of Marilyn Monroe, with which the jury has compared her (or was it shade?). And Cristina will need better choreography, at the height of her enthusiasm for going to Eurovision, if she presents something similar to what she did tonight with ‘U Nana’ in the contest.

Pablo Alborán opened the 10th Operación Triunfo gala by singing ‘Saturno’ with the contestants, and then the man from Malaga got back on stage to present his country single ‘Vámonos dehere’. That is to say, he has sung one of the best songs of his career, and one of the worst.

Elena Gadel – a contestant on Operación Triunfo 2002 and guest by right – was the second visitor of the night. Their role has been to raise awareness among the audience about the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, which is celebrated this November 25. To do this, he has invited the female contestants of the edition to provide backing vocals for ‘Loba’, his 2023 single.

In gala 10, heavyweights of the edition are already facing expulsion. It is disconcerting that a talent like Guillo is nominated for two consecutive galas. When Chenoa asks him what song he will choose to try to save himself next Monday, after having played the guitar and having done cartwheels and jumped in the air during the editing, Guillo doesn’t know what to answer: “I’ll have to look and see.” Have you played all your cards yet? You enter taking on the world and you leave doubting even your shadow. If he is expelled, it will also be by discard.
