Stevie Nicks’s foul-mouthed interview with Rolling Stone

Stevie Nicks, who has just released the single ‘The Lighthouse’, has given an interview to Rolling Stone and some of his statements – which can only be read upon payment – are circulating online because they are striking and foul-mouthed.

Nicks is very clear about Fleetwood Mac and categorically denies that a farewell tour is going to happen. In his words, “Fleetwood Mac died when Christine McVie died.” Nicks assures that McVie “can never be replaced.”

About Lindsay Buckingham, his bandmate and ex-partner, Nicks shares less flattering words. Nicks explains that he has only spoken to Buckingham for “three minutes” recently and by chance: “I dealt with Lindsey as much as I could, you can’t say I didn’t give her 300 million chances.” When Nicks points out that Lindsey is an “icon,” Rolling Stone responds that she is more so, and Nicks replies, “That was one of the problems, wasn’t it?”

The figure of Harry Styles unexpectedly appears in the history of Fleetwood Mac. Nicks says that Buckingham was not at all nice to Styles during an event, and that for her this event was the last straw in her relationship with the musician: “At that time (Lindsey) didn’t treat anyone well, she didn’t treat anyone very well. Well to Harry Styles. I could hear my mother saying “are you really going to spend the next 15 years of your life with this man?” “I could hear my father saying ‘it’s time for you to get divorced.'” I told myself: this is over.

The interview leaves other statements from Nicks related to another pop star of our era: Katy Perry. When Rolling Stone asks Nicks if she uses the internet on her cell phone, she answers no and then recalls her strange encounter with the ‘Roar’ author a decade ago: “10 years ago, Katy Perry was talking to me about armies.” of fans of pop divas, told me how stale and cruel they are. He asked me “what are your rivals?” and I looked at him with a bad face. I answered: «Katy, I don’t have rivals, I have friends. All the female singers I know are friends. Nobody is competing. Stop using the internet and you will have no rivals either.

On the other hand, Nicks talks about the coronavirus and, in particular, criticizes people who point out him for wearing a mask. He says he takes care of Covid as much as he can: “I fucking hate masks but, as a singer with asthma, I have to wear them. People look at me badly, but I tell them: you know what? I’m Stevie Nicks. If I get sick, forty families will be out of work, so that’s why I wear a mask, asshole.

In relation to covid, Nicks alludes to his own mortality: «I can’t catch covid anymore. “I am older, I have more or less 15 years left to live, but you young people still have 30 or 40 years ahead of you, so you should consider wearing a mask.”
