Stereolab will publish their first album in 15 years, ‘Instant Holograms on Metal Film’, specifically on May 23. We had already met the single ‘Aerial Troubles’ and now it is the turn of the track that happens in the sequence. The cut 3 of that new album is called ‘Is a Wound’s melodie’ and it is our song of the day today.
Often the 90s are associated with grunge, techno or indie, but there was also space for Stereolab. Discs such as ‘Mars Audiac Quintet’ and ‘Emperor Tomato Ketchup’ marked the Kraut Pop of that decade, halfway between retro devotion and indie Diy of the time. ‘Is a wound melodie’ is an exciting trip to those times.
The first half of the song is even jumping: its circular chords will make your head move to the rhythm, while the soft voice of Laetitia Sadier Guide. From the 3 minutes, Stereolab offers a different version of the same melody: the rhythm is slowed and then accelerates at the end, wrapped in electric guitars, distorted metals and keyboards.
We are also before one of Stereolab’s political songs, where not, they are not innocently singing to us “melodies that hurt.” “The public has the right to know the truth,” “cultivates ignorance and hate” or “the objective is to manipulate, with heavy hands that intimidate” are some of the phrases juxtaposed in this letter composed of two stanzas, without chorus, even if it does not seem like it, because it has its catchy parts.
It exists in “Radio Edit” of the song for impatient, extended almost up to 5 minutes, but logically it is in its 7 and a half version where you can enjoy Stereolab’s qualities in its entirety.
The Spring Sound group on June 6 and later Madrid on June 7. There are still tickets available for the Eslava theater.
