St. Vincent calls John Mayer’s ‘Daughters’ ‘sexist’ and ‘misogynistic’

St. Vincent hates John Mayer. She shared this in a recent interview with Kerrang!, in which Annie Clark reviewed the songs that have had the most impact on her life. When asked about the worst song ever written, she did not hesitate to answer ‘Daughters’ by John Mayer. “It’s horribly sexist,” replied the American artist.

‘Daughters’ is one of Mayer’s most acclaimed songs. Included in the album ‘Heavier Things’ (2003), the song won the Grammy for Song of the Year in 2005. Even so, St. Vincent has chosen it as the worst song in history. “It pretends to be a love song, but it’s really retrograde and sexist. I hate it… It’s deeply misogynistic, which would be fine if it acknowledged that, but it passes itself off as a sweet song,” said Clark.

The ‘All Born Screaming’ hitmaker also talked about the song that reminds her of school (‘Bull In The Heather’ by Sonic Youth), the song she’d play at her funeral (‘Sleepwalk’ by Santo & Johnny) and the song that always manages to lift her spirits (‘Automatic’ by The Pointer Sisters).
