Continuing with the good professional moment he is going through after the release of ‘WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA’ and its success at festivals, Slayyyter releases a new single that, presumably, opens the campaign for his next work. Everything indicates that it will be a sister album to the previous one, replacing “girl” with “man” in the title, and that it will be released soon.
The title of ‘Brand New Chanel$’ refers to ‘Beat Up Chanel$’, but musically it goes another way. Slayyyter leaves behind the electroclash dirt of that song to embrace a much clearer and more commercial pop sound, with echoes of the pop and indie of the early 2010s. It is easy to think both of Katy Perry of ‘Teenage Dream’ and of festival bands like Two Door Cinema Club or M83, whose ‘Reunion’ seems to be an influence.
‘Brand New Chanel$’ also has a clear vocation as a festival anthem: it grows little by little until it ends in a chorus of pure collective catharsis. Katy Perry’s influence can be seen especially in the prominence of the guitar, which drives an explosion of euphoric pop.
The lyrics address a sentimental breakup based on resentment and mistrust, with Slayyyter settling scores with an unfaithful ex-partner while trying to convince herself that she is better off without him.
