‘Soltera’ is Shakira’s first song after the release of ‘Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran’ and the 3 Latin GRAMMY nominations, so there were certain expectations for the song. ‘Soltera’ is a fun afrobeat song, and it stays there.
‘Soltera’ wants to be a “feminine anthem” and “contagious”, as its press release states. The chorus is a plea for women’s freedom, in which the Colombian sings that “like them, I have the right to behave badly to have a good time.” In short, “she has a great time single.” The melody, on the other hand, is quite similar to what we have heard hundreds of times in other songs.
The verses are where the most charismatic Shakira appears, referencing Sanz’s ‘Corazón partío’ and leaving such powerful phrases as “Dog write to me, screenshot and pa’ his girlfriend” or “I’m selective, little career / Normal, for obvious reasons ».
Towards the end of the song, Shakira surrounds herself with Anitta, Danna Paola and Lele Pons to sing the chorus together. These will also appear in the video clip, recorded in Miami and available “soon.”
