Rosé and Bruno Mars play the fool in the bubblegum punk of ‘APT’

The solo macro releases of the BLACKPINK members continue to happen. After hearing Lisa become a ‘New Woman’ with Rosalía, and after letting ourselves be conquered by Jennie’s ‘Mantra’, now it is Rosé who is making a move by releasing a single with Bruno Mars. Jisoo, warm up as you go out.

On the other hand, it has been announced that Rosé’s debut album, ‘ROSIE’, will go on sale on December 6. ‘APT.’ It is the first single.

In ‘APT.’, Rosé opts for a very different sound than her two previous singles, ‘On the Ground’ and ‘Gone’. Specifically, ‘APT.’ It leans towards the cheerleader sound and the bubblegum guitars of Avril Lavigne… and towards the percussions of ‘Shake it Off’ by Taylor Swift.

‘APT.’ It is a lighthearted and fun song, although it sounds as processed as a “punk” song designed in one of those laboratories of the mainstream music industry can sound. Up to 11 composers are credited on ‘APT.’, including, of course, Bruno Mars, who with ‘APT.’ takes action after the release of ‘Die with a Smile’, current global number 1.

The aesthetic borrowed from bubblegum punk permeates the rocking music video for ‘APT.’. There are all the punk codes you expect: Rosé and Bruno Mars wear leather jackets and pink star-shaped glasses, play the drums and perform the song in front of a set of speakers and using a microphone hooked to a long cable. In other words: it’s about time someone claimed ‘Sucker’… even if Rosé doesn’t bring back Charli’s bad baba xcx.
