Lisa has released her new single, ‘New Woman’, a collaboration with Rosalía that has been rumoured for a couple of weeks. ‘New Woman’ is the song that Rosalía had briefly teased on her social networks, in which she said “fuck, I’m Rosalía, I only know how to serve.” It’s the Song of the Day.
In ‘New Woman’, Rosalía raps her part in Spanish, while the rest of the song is written in English. She makes her mark not only by boasting about “frontear” but, above all, by using a typical flamenco vocabulary, not too clever when Vila Tobella sings that she will be the best “until the morning” (ok) and under “the starry night”.
It is Lisa who introduces ‘New Woman’, driven by the maximalism of the production, and with the entrance of Rosalía, the intensity stops… but then comes back. The change of tempo is disconcerting at first, but adds dimension to a production that never slows down again.
In ‘New Woman’, Lisa opts for a commercial urban pop sound, similar to that of her previous single, ‘Rockstar’, or to that of the band that made her famous, BLACKPINK. And she is assured – or so it is hoped – of another hit by having Max Martin on the composition, who probably had something to do with the dynamic chorus of the song, and Tove Lo; the elite of Swedish pop.
‘New Woman’ is also a visual treat, as its video is full of surreal scenes, such as the one in which Rosalía joins her lip with Lisa’s ear, crossing two rings, or the one in which Rosalía appears sitting on a chair hanging on the wall. Lisa especially likes to pose next to electrical appliances: the singer appears leaning on a printer or cooling off next to a refrigerator. Given the heat, we are not surprised.
Rosalía squeezing lemons, Lisa wielding a digital camera, burning boots, a frame of multiplied umbrellas… and more scenes to put in your mouth in this -we’re going to say it- candy of a video clip directed by Dave Meyers, the director of the superstars.
