'Better Man': Robbie Williams was the "monkey", much to his credit

Robbie Williams adds another Top 1 in UK … but not in cinemas

The music of the movie ‘Better Man’, which counts the most tumultuous years of Robbie Williams’ career, has managed to reach number 1 on the British record list. In the United Kingdom, Robbie Williams is God and this album represents its 15th number 1 in that table, the albums. Tied the Beatles. If we count Take That’s albums, they could add 18, 19 or 20, as the OCC tells, depending on which compilations you tell (in some leaves more, in others it leaves less).

‘Better Man’ has sold 43,000 copies in a week, only within the United Kingdom, most of CD, 21,000, and in Cassette, another 21,000, the latter through two editions. Of course, the album is expected to hardly resist in the Top 75 in its second week, because it appears in the 69th position in the Midweeks.

This other bad fact is in tune with what have turned out to be the ‘Better Man’ box office data. The film cost 110 million dollars and will have serious problems to be profitable.

In its main market, the United Kingdom, it only became Top 5 at its premiere at Christmas, but then it has not remained very good, and has only raised 6 million pounds along 6 weeks of exhibition. Someone expected the movie to be a “Sleepper” in the way of ‘The Greatest Showman’ of the same director, Michael Gracey, but has not finished passing.

In Spain, the movie reached the weekly top 11 of the highest grossing according to the Ministry of Culture, but left the top 25 of more popular films after only 3 weeks. He had raised a total of 350,000 euros in those 3 weeks through 51,000 spectators.

A pity because the project, with Robbie Williams turned into a monkey, was more risky and interesting than this type of biopics to use. Will streaming make it into a cult film, or will it simply fall into oblivion?
