Quentin Gas reveals his “Calvary” with Noni Meyers

The ordeal is the latest preview of the new and long-awaited album by Quentin Gas & Los Zingaros. It is a very complicated topic with Noni by Lori Meyers and that in some way closes the circle of an album project that started in 2018 and that finally, not without a few vicissitudes, sees the light at the end of the tunnel. A pop quejío whose story we premiere with an excellent video clip.

Quentin Gas and Los Zingaros Back in 2017, they were one of the first to champion this new combination of flamenco, psychedelia and other popular music that has now established itself in a kind of avant-garde. Quentin Gas visualized those common places that existed between his family flamenco origins and his passion for pop, punk and new trends. He loaded all of this in that Caravan (2017) and from there he began a long path through that Deserto Rosso (capital theme of the debut) to build a more current musical and artistic story. The result will be called “The World Burns” and its last season of penance before the album ascends to the heaven of the platforms is precisely one of the pearls of this second album. Calvary.

Calvary It is an exciting, sincere and heartbreaking pop song introduced by a flamenco quejio, a lament, a confession that exposes the soul to the core. Spoiler alert: impossible not to be moved by the lyrics. But let’s let Quentin himself narrate that ordeal alongside Lori Meyers’ Noni.

I met Noni when Quentin Gas & Los Zingaros supported Temples at La Riviera Madrid in 2018. He was so surprised by our concert that he came to look for me in our dressing room. He told me that he had a basement recording studio in his house in Graná and invited me to go whenever I wanted. The pandemic came and everything was screwed. But in 2022 we got back in touch when I played him a demo of El Calvario (previously titled Dicen) on piano and voice and he liked it so much that he called me on the phone and we talked for hours to plan to meet and record the song. Almost two years later it sees the light.

The song keeps the pop essence that so characterizes the voice and style of noni in his Lori Meyers with a flamenco intro from Quentin so as not to lose the zingaro vibe, with the same wheel of chords, like a mantra that unites the two worlds. Another exercise in experimentation, in linking flamenco with pop and rock culture. The track is supervised and produced by Enzo Leepregular producer of this new stage of Los Zíngaros.

He video clip that we premiere at MondoSonoro immerses itself in that dystopian script that has been projected in our lives since Quentin Gas and Noni began working on Calvary. It is directed by Alvaro Parrilla Alvarez and filmed somewhere in Cologne (Germany). The ordeal begins, in video.
