Just over a week before ‘LUX’, Rosalía’s fourth album, is released, the Catalan artist has spoken for the first time about the album on Popcast, The New York Times’ music podcast presented by Jon Caramanica and Joe Coscarelli.
The interview is now available in full and includes fragments of several tracks included in ‘LUX’, such as ‘Sex, violence and tires’, ‘God is a stalker’ or ‘The pearl’. The APALEAPALE fan account on X compiles them.

In the interview, Rosalía reveals that she sings in 13 languages on ‘LUX’. Vila Tobella will sing in Sicilian, probably in ‘Focu ‘Ranni’, as this is a Sicilian expression that means “great fire”; in Portuguese probably in ‘Memoria’, his collaboration with Carminho, and possibly also in Catalan, English and Latin. Caramanica confirms that Ukrainian is another of the languages included on the album, while it is rumored that Rosalía will also approach Arabic. It is worth mentioning that the album label includes a quote from the Iraqi mystic Rabia al Adawiyya, and another from the French philosopher Simone Weil. Of course, only in ‘Berghain’ does Rosalía sing in German and Spanish.
Rosalía’s Mexican fans have been able to listen to the songs from ‘LUX’ by reading the lyrics projected on a screen, during the album’s first listening party held this Wednesday, October 29 in Mexico City. Rosalía was present at the event – which coincided with the Day of the Dead – to thank her audience and explain the concept of the album, which “is inspired by feminine mysticism and holy women from around the world.”
The next ‘LUX’ listening party is in New York on November 1st. In Barcelona, the date is November 5.
