Pope Francis dies: he remembers his album

The Holy See has informed at 9.52 on Monday of the death of Pope Francis, which has occurred at 7.35 in the morning. He has died only one day after Sunday of Resurrection, when he was seen in the Plaza de San Pedro to wish for a happy Easter. The media reported that he could barely speak. Pope Francis had left March 23 from the hospital, after having spent more than a month admitted for pneumonia. He was 88 years old.

Francisco will be remembered for his reformist character, his recognition of pedophilia in the Church and his fight against it. For many it was “a dangerous left -wing potato”, for others it did not go so far, for example, in terms of female ordination. As the country emphasizes, it will be its successor who decides how far reforms are reached such as the fraternal acceptance of homosexuals and transsexuals, or the entry of women in high positions of the curia in the so -called “demulinization of the Church”; or if it goes back.

As usual in recent decades, he was also a Pope interested in music and there are many artists with whom he has starred in sounded encounters, including Bono de U2, Sting or the Leader of Genesis. It was common for these conversations to talk about the fight against poverty.

Also numerous Spanish and Latin artists had the opportunity to meet the Pope. In 2023, 200 artists from around the world congregated in the Sistine Chapel. There they were asked not to forget the poor because they also need “art and beauty.” Among the lucky ones, were Mexican Carla Morrison, guitarist Vicente Amigen or writer Javier Cercas.

Before, in 2019, on the occasion of the presentation of a peace concert that was going to be organized at the Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid, people like Sebastián Yatra or Miguel Poveda could greet him. The objective of that recital was to raise funds for the Occurrent Scholas Foundation.

The Pope believed in music as a way of knowing ourselves and as a path to God: “Music not only tells us about ourselves, but also about the search for God, sometimes of God himself!” He said in a Christmas musical event a few years ago, indicating that it was necessary to “harmoniously tune in with others, with society and with their laws” to give space “to the originality of the way of being and expressing each other.”

In fact, Pope Francis came to get a somewhat “progressive” album in 2015. It was called ‘Wake Up!’ and is available on streaming platforms as a compilation. The album was made up of speeches of Pope Francis, pronounced between 2013 and 2015 and arranged by musicians and producers, in general Italians. The album came to enter the American Christian lists of Billboard already be valued – he’d- in Metacritic.
