Pipiolas overcome a crush evoking the eighties Madonna

Pipiolas have released their second album, and they believe in it so much that they have titled it homonymously, as if it were a new introduction to their proposal. The album is full of good choruses and eighties synths, not only present in standout singles like ‘Soy una Estrella’, which samples Ricchi e Poveri, but also in electropop gems like ‘Now What’ or ‘Finita la Commedia’, while the lyrics address love from different perspectives.

This is the case of ‘Nanana’, which uses images associated with terror (cemeteries, the living dead) to describe an obsessive love that led to disappointment and then transformation. “Those things I said, now I wouldn’t say them anymore,” sing Adriana Ubani (voice) and Paula Reyes (voice). The chorus reveals that this infatuation was a kind of crush that lasted a month, but was intense enough to turn the song’s narrator into a “living dead.”

Pipiolas come up with another synth-pop hit to tell this story of heartbreak, this time inspired by the eighties sound of fitness fashion, even using arpeggios that refer to the first Madonna and hits like ‘Like a Virgin’. Adriana and Paula approach this sound from their own territory, creating a very European melody with a naive touch, but tremendously effective and memorable.

“Emotions are as ephemeral as life, both end up in a cemetery. What was before is not now, and vice versa. Who knows,” says the press release. «They define it well. A song that sounds like summers in December. At the doors of the nightclub at seven in the morning. To dangerous friendships in the middle of a hangover. These are the trips that Pipiolas take us on.
