Oasis are back, breaking ticket sales records, but also rekindling some debates about the Gallagher brothers’ toxic masculinity. Simon Price’s column for The Guardian, in which he accused them of being homophobic, was a hit, almost on the same day that Raquel Peláez concluded in El País: “I hope they spend everything they earn on therapy.”
This summer, a song by the Sevillanas ArreciO went viral in the underground, which already questioned Oasis fans in one of its jibes. ‘Onvres’ is a parody of the worst masculinity, of the man who “doesn’t brush his teeth”, who complains that “the condom is tight”, who practices mansplaining and also “you get ‘Wonderwall'”. It concludes that it’s not worth crying over anyone like that.
Our Song of the Day stands up against that “child-like man who is not on my level”, against the one who complains that “his exes were bad and that nobody understood him”. The last verse changes tone to remind you of the things that are worth crying for: your friends, your sick grandmother, your brother who takes care of you or that mother who you have not been able to see for a long time because of your work or your studies. Like ‘No te puto pilles’ by Pantocrator, ‘Onvres’ is a song for the Rubiales of life.
arrecí0 admit to being influenced by Madrid indie and tontipop, but with a certain “local Andalusian stamp.” According to their funny biography on Spotify, which contains a supposed quote from Arturo Pérez Reverte, they are here to “connect with bisexual teenage girls or young adults who don’t have their brains fully settled.” They also boast of “contaminating the subconscious of young people with messages of love, friendship, madness, sapphism and pedrosanchism.”
Musically, they seem to be close to pop-rock groups like Pignoise, adding AutoTune-type effects without any complexes, as can be heard in their gay song, ‘mentapoleo’. At the moment, they have only uploaded 4 songs in total to streaming platforms, and with ‘Onvres’ they have managed to add 60,000 streams from the strictest self-publishing. Their label is simply called arrecí0. We leave you with their next concert dates. More info on their Instagram.
