The 19th Court of Instruction in Madrid has charged Nacho Cano and two other people with the alleged illegal hiring of immigrants for the musical show ‘Malinche’. Cano is accused of committing two crimes against workers’ rights and of promoting illegal immigration. Cano and the rest of the suspects will be called to testify before Judge Inmaculada Iglesias, who has opened proceedings against the three accused.
Cano was arrested on July 9 by the National Police accused of irregularities in the hiring of dancers for his show inspired by Latin American history. In a press conference, Cano accused the police and the government of his arrest.
Cano has denied the accusations at all times, while many of his dancers have supported him and have filed complaints against the police for “coercion and falsification of documents.” Cano’s lawyer has stated that “all the people who are hired as interns are legally in Spain.” Lesly, the dancer who supposedly filed the complaint, has declared, however, that the team of dancers was in “terrible conditions” working in Spain.
