Morrissey says no to the ultra -right, at least

After years of flirting with the British right, Morrissey claims to be “apolitic.” In a new statement on his website, the singer has revealed that he recently rejected “cordially” an invitation to act at a conference of the Reform UK political party, one of the main forces of the extreme right in the United Kingdom.

The statement clarified that Morrissey was “apolitic” and that he had never “affiliated with a political party, or voted, in his entire life.” At the same time, he said he was “grateful for the invitation.” In this event, Nigel Farage, party leader, reaffirmed in his policy of “stopping the ships” and “deporting anyone who illegally in our country,” the Guardian reports.

In the past, Morrissey has been related to the right following numerous comments. For example, in 2016 he referred to Farage himself as a “liberal educator” and someone who “would obviously be a good prime minister.”

On the other hand, in 2019 he also declared his support for the extreme right -wing party for Britain, dissolved in 2022: “The United Kingdom is a place full of hate and we need someone to put an end to madness and speak for all,” he said referring to Anne Marie Waters, party leader.
