Mon Laferte, classic and heartbreaking in the baladesque ‘Melancolía’

Mon Laferte is back with an album and new anthems to feed the winter nostalgia. The artist born in Chile has put on the blonde wig in ‘FEMME FATALE’, which arrives two years after ‘Autopoietica’, and has given us one of her most heartbreaking songs with ‘Melancolía’.

The Song of the Day is a classic ballad with guitar, winds and loud vocals. Very different from the dream bowling he scored with Nathy Peluso in ‘La Tirana’, but no less powerful for that reason.

A sweet arpeggio, reminiscent of the pop ballads of the 50s and 60s, welcomes the song. At the same time, Laferte sings about wanting to be better: “I promise you it was never / In my plans to ruin it / It hurts me this second of May,” he intones in the first lines. ‘Melancolía’ is one of those songs that benefits from the gradual rise of the instrumentation, just as elegant as the composition.

In the second verse, new arrangements begin to appear before moving on to the high chorus, in which Mon asks his “love” to upload a video that may “resurrect them from the dead” and leaves the most painful phrase of the song: “We can already endure the winter / Maybe we can endure a little more.” The key is in how Laferte sings the word “melancholy”, with full feeling.
