Michael Jackson biopic will omit the 1993 scandal

Michael Jackson’s biopic will be incomplete. This is the conclusion that can be reached after learning that the film that will hit theaters on April 24 will omit the complaint for child abuse that the singer received in 1993, a scandal that caught Jackson on tour in Asia and that completely changed the course of his career and the state of his public image.

This is also the reason why the biopic was delayed from 2025 to 2026. According to Variety in a new report, Michael Jackson’s estate intervened legally to prevent the dramatization of the 1993 scandal, after discovering a clause in the original lawsuit that prohibited the complainant from being represented in a film.

According to the aforementioned media, the film was already completely shot when this happened, so the creators were forced to redo the entire third act, adding 22 days of production that added up to $15 million to the total cost. The Jackson estate assumed the cost of the additional scenes, having prompted the revision.

The 1993 scandal will be the big absent episode in this film starring the singer’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson. Instead of concluding with the allegations, the film will close with preparations for the iconic 1987 Bad tour, and its central conflict will revolve around Jackson’s complicated relationship with his father, Joe Jackson, played by Colman Domingo.
