Memocracy mix generational rage with tenderness in ‘nervous by birth’

Among the bets for 2025 of our last yearbook were Memocracy, a Burgos punk band of those who told you that they had two studio albums (plus one live from the Penitentiary Center of Burgos) and that this year they would launch new work. ‘Rabies and tenderness’ is the name of the EP that has just seen the light, the first one under the Industrias Bala Seal, for which they recently signed.

In any of the issues published in these years you can see the claw of Gabriel, Alejandro, Diego and Germán, but what distinguishes Mepocracy from other bands of a similar cut is its bet because this claw coexists with vulnerability, and even with tenderness, wanting the band to get away from “all those groups of punk rock maltes masculinized” that we usually associate with this genre. Because the contradictions between apparently opposite concepts, in addition to being in the band’s own name (they wanted Things, we are not modern but either punkis, we are not kalimochero rock but either indie rock. ”

The theme, for which references such as Biznaga, Viva Belgrade, Fugazi or Fiddlehead, among others, is produced by Santi Gracia, like the rest of the EP, and in it there are reflections such as “I am wasting my time / or I am taking advantage of it”, “changing mental health / mental health for fun” or the brilliant “I do not long for the past, I just long long for me”. Its most hardcore side joins with more melodic points, as in the excellent bridge: introduced by the bass, it ends in an explosion that, we bet, you will live in great in their concerts while chanting that “what to say, júzgame you / tell me if I am good enough in this”. All this is rounded in the video clip destroying a car that has already come out in previous videos, a symbol that it is a new stage for Memocracy.

‘Nervous by birth’ and the EP themselves share with ‘The Guri Guri’ (the theme with Ana Master we highlighted in the yearbook) the reflections and the generational concern with a hopeful point. That theme spoke of being “disoriented in an irrational world”, “in a constant truque between the new and the above”, and at the same time it contained two verses as powerful as “we are victims of a liquid love that anesthesia us but that cannot stop us” and “hagming, heart, even in the afternoon.”

Here, that vitalist look despite the uncertainty that can surround us persists, and does so in this song and in the other courts, for example in the fun ‘El Barto’, about a friend of the group. And it is that a key to that vitalism seems to be friendship, which makes enough sense taking into account that Memocracy began when the boys were 16 years ago, since then they have given about 150 concerts, and now they add a few presenting ‘rage and tenderness’, from Zamora or Barcelona to Paris (they will give three bowling in France).
