So far there have been several independent groups that have taken their music from Spotify for reasons of the investments of their CEO in military technology. Now things can start changing with Massive Attackwho have claimed to leave the platform.
In recent months we have seen how bands and artists from the independent scene decided to leave the Streaming Spotify platform after the news was known that his CEO, Daniel EK, was investing in military technology. Groups like Hotline TNT, Young Widows, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Wu Lyf, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Xiu Xiu or Deerhof They made the decision previously, although part of the discographies of any of them remains on the platform because they belong to different record stamps. Although its decision has appeared in all media and generated debate, none of the groups reaches the dimensions of the British Massive Attack.
We could say that Massive Attack is the first really big group – although it is obviously not supervantant – that has made the decision that his music disappears from Spotify. Anyway, it is still available there until the records eliminate it. Massive Attack have made the decision after considering joining No Music for Genocide, an initiative that sought to get – through geolocation – the music of the artists could not be heard in Israel. Instead, Massive Attack have decided to be completely eliminated from the platform.
Massive Attack not only refer to what is happening now with conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, but also talk about moral and ethical issues in general and that they do not want to support in any way “dystopian and lethal technologies.” They also argue that “another way of doing things is possible.”
