Los Puñales de Martín is an indie-rock group formed in Valencia in 2019, and made up of Daniel Latorre, Pablo Montoliu and Álvaro Harnández. With an epé and several singles published, Los Puñales de Martín has deployed a guitar sound, which draws on decades of rock and punk, and which “moves between emotional epic and live energy.” This appreciation is evident in songs like ‘White Noise’, where distortion coexists with the accessibility of a chantable chorus. You’ll like it if you like Mujeres, but also Carolina Durante… assuming you don’t like both groups at the same time.
‘Mala Racha’, with its relentless guitar energy, also exposes the narrative style of Los Puñales de Martín, which “is born from everyday tears.” Here, the vocalist portrays himself in the worst of faces, stating that “in doing harm (he is the) champion of Spain.” The memory of the extinct Hate Confetti also emerges in the sorrowful ‘Nothing Special’, which rhymes: “I’m nothing special, because I lose every weekend, I’m afraid to look at your face, just in case I have to forget it.”
‘Establish a band (and it ends badly)’ is another recording by Los Puñales de Martín with the potential of a live anthem. Pay attention to its chorus: “One, two, three, answer again, and tell me something that I won’t forget.” On the other hand, they have also thought of covering ‘En qué star estar’ by Nena Daconte, but they adapt it to garage punk (you can tell that it is an ideal song to rehearse).
‘Miénteme’, the new single from Los Puñales de Martín, now introduces jangle-pop influences, somewhat The Cure, although it immediately allows itself to be enveloped by layers of distortion. If the themes of “Puñales” talk about “relationships that break, streets that burn, promises that are undone and early mornings that do not end”, ‘Lie to Me’ goes one step further: a direct plea to the loved one not to tell the truth. The chorus, as catchy as it is desperate, sums it all up: “Lie to me, tell me everything is going to be okay, and then we’ll see it: I love you.”
The video clip for ‘Miénteme’ is a short short film inspired by horror films, and JENESAISPOP is pleased to premiere it. It is a video directed by Sebastián del Valle and Diego Sebastián Carrasco and starring Lula Sáez and a strange character inspired by the bogeyman; What at first seems like a scene of imminent panic becomes the story of a tender friendship.
