María Yfeu recreates in the charm of 3 chords in ‘What happened’

If at least in our heads and our hearts, ‘tell me that it is not a single single, in the wake of Mazzy Starr and Lana del Rey,’ what happened ‘should be his successor. Also belonging to the second album of the singer -songwriter María Yfeu, ‘Do yours’, ‘What happened’ is our song of the day today.

On the most catchy electric guitars of the entire album, inspired by the most aqueous indie rock, María Yfeu begins by ensuring that “what happened, will never happen again.” Is that good or bad, in this case?

Sour, the melody leaves the door open to a more positive outcome (“Let it be”) or negative (“Rompelo, Destroce it”). The last part of the song passes between parentheses, with the voice of María Yfeu drowned in reverb or penalty: “You can go behind me / there is no way that we find ourselves / something pushes us from the outside and inward.”

In a recent interview on Radio 3, María Yfeu recalled that these songs were like letters that have served to close stories. «Enquistadas situations» from which it has come out more or less thanks to the composition. The singer -songwriter states particularly about ‘what happened’ that a producer before Raúl Pérez, with whom she did the final work, criticized that ‘what happened’ only had “three chords” affirming something similar to: “It is that the song has nothing!”

Despite his recognized insecurities and machismo in this type of sessions, Yfeu imposed his criteria and believes that there are songs of “3 chords that work better than others with 17 in each stanza.” “I have never believed in the complexity in music,” reaffirms the artist -who has musical training -, in front of what is one of her most accessible compositions.

María Yfeu has several pending concerts, with which we leave you. Details, in your Linktree:
