Manu Tenorio threatens Podemos with legal action

Manu Tenorio is one of the public voices that have positioned themselves against squatting, after announcing that he has “squatters” in his second home in Sanlúcar de Barrameda. Manu Tenorio claims that the family that rents his second property has not paid him for a year despite receiving monthly salaries. However, these people deny having stopped paying and maintain that they have been paying the rent to the Treasury to settle a debt that the singer has with the public coffers.

In an interview with Código 10, a programme broadcast on Cuatro, Manu Tenorio has again denied having debts with the Treasury, indicating that at no time have his accounts been frozen or “intervened” by the state. In addition, Tenorio has denied that the couple – from Huelva – have contacted him to fix the damage to the flat, specifically a “fallen ceiling”. He claims that his debt to him is prior and that he has refused to make any repairs until he receives the money that supposedly belongs to him.

On Cuatro, the story has taken a turn when Tenorio’s tenant family has been pointed out as being in debt not only of “10,000 euros” in unpaid bills to the singer, but of other previous amounts for which their bank account has supposedly suffered “seizures” that have “affected their salary.” According to neighbors who know the couple, they are known as “show-off” people who like to show off their money. Manu Tenorio maintains that they have stopped paying their rent to save up and buy a flat. Cuatro has also discovered that the couple has managed two companies, one of sausages and another of distribution, and that they still have debts.

The Tenorio case has had such a media impact that it has reached the political sphere. María Teresa Pérez, deputy spokesperson for Podemos, has called Tenorio a “delinquent” and has asked the singer to “stop encouraging the false discourse of occupation” using a “loudspeaker ready for lies” while the tenants “cannot defend themselves in front of a public figure.” Manu Tenorio has denied having received a single letter from the Treasury and has threatened Podemos with legal action for defaming him. “These people from Podemos have attacked my image without calling me to contrast the information they were going to give,” he said in statements collected by La Vanguardia. “It is a lack of respect towards their own voters and a lack of ethics. All legal actions within my power will be carried out.”

The story began a few days ago, when Tenorio went to social network X to communicate his situation. “The situation I find myself in is really impressive. For more than a year now I have been dealing with squatters, and until now I have not found an effective way to evict them.” Tenorio pointed out that “neither by giving them time nor reaching an agreement” has he reached a solution, and “they do not give me any option to return the apartment.” Tenorio maintains that there is no contract between the tenant and the owners because it expired more than a year ago: “I have been asking for a year for them to return the house and they do not leave.”

The media was quick to cover the case of Manu Tenorio, and Antena 3 spoke to the family that rents the singer’s second home. The tenants gave a very different version, claiming that the Treasury is demanding the amount of Tenorio’s rent because the singer “has a million-dollar debt” with the tax authorities. In addition, they claim that the house has “damages” that Tenorio has not taken care of “for months.” Tenorio has denied having a debt, but has indicated that he has “deferrals, like any other citizen.”
