2 years ago RTVE introduced the name of Lela Soto to the world, one of the promises of current flamenco. Lela Soto has collaborated with Alejandro Sanz, La Pastori, Pitingo and Navajita Plateá, and her genealogy has had to do with her access to the flamenco elite, since she is the daughter of Vicente Soto, brother of José Soto, a member of Ketama, and granddaughter of Manuel Soto Monje, El Sordera, according to RTVE “descendant of Paco de Lucía.”
Lela Soto’s family background only partially explains her talent, since her father assures that Lela has been singing since she was little and that he already knew then that his daughter was going to be an artist. However, Lela – born in Madrid – has one of those great voices that can reach very high.
After having provided her services to various artists, Lela Soto is preparing her full-length debut for 2025, by Altafonte, and the first preview is already known. Today, Friday, Lela Soto premieres ‘De mucho rezarle al santo’, remembering the best Niña Pastori both in the pure and crystalline sound of the Spanish guitars, and in her vocal requiebros.
As its title indicates, ‘De so much praying to the saint’ adds to the current recovery of the symbols of ancient Spain to contextualize them in the present. Thus, it is not surprising that, in the video clip, Lela sings inside a typical town house, decorated with pictures of religious icons, crosses or even with a shotgun, which Lela later wields.
While preparing her album, Lela Soto continues to tour with concerts in various cities in Spain. Upcoming dates include October 19 at Sala Apolo in Barcelona, October 26 at Suma Flamenca in Madrid, November 9 at Guess Who in Utrecht, Netherlands and December 7 at Nocturama in Seville.
