Ana Mena has recently announced that her new album, the successor to the successful ‘Bellodrama’ (2023), will be released in 2026. Mena promised to “get naked” in this album and in fact appeared naked in the first promotional image of this new era, which turned out to be a screenshot of the video clip for her new single, ‘Lárgate’.
The clip takes place in a rural and country setting, but soon turns into a fun pastiche of folk horror and sexual comedy, with Ana Mena turned into the murderer of the man who harmed her. Pure rural camp for the new era of Ana Mena… which seeks to destroy the previous one with one shot: attention to the end of the video.
‘Lárgate’ is a song of heartbreak that uses black humor to channel anger towards an “unhappy” person with whom Mena has had the misfortune of falling in love. The artist appears armed with “poison” and an “axe,” ready to use any resource at her disposal to erase that person from her life. He will even take justice into his own hands: “I have ten thousand ways to kill you,” he sings.
‘Lárgate’ is immediately one of Ana Mena’s best songs. Co-written by Andrés Torres and Mauricio Rengifo (‘Despacito’, Aitana), it ascribes to its classic and melodic facet, that of ‘Light Music’. But ‘Lárgate’ is not a version although it may seem like it, but rather an original composition whose beautiful melody evokes Jeanette’s work, specifically, the melancholic drama of pieces like ‘Ojitos tristes’. The production, however, is updated with subtle electronic effects.
In a year in which Jeanette has been vindicated by artists like Selena Gomez, when Jeanette herself has returned by releasing a song with Lucas Bun, Ana Mena delivers her bet. This time, splattered with blood.
