Behind La Texana is Josué Ramírez, a 21-year-old Mexican who seeks to mix post punk with the folklore of his hometown, Tijuana. The first and exciting preview of their debut LP has been produced by El Alcalde and Marcos Crespo (Depresion Sonora) and edited by Sonido Muchacho. ‘Stubborn’ is the Song of the Day.
The La Texana project was born at the beginning of 2021 in Josúe’s room, when he was only 18 years old, had a laptop and a guitar. Based on industrial and lo-fi rock cuts, La Texana has been making a name for itself on the Mexican scene. After taking a break of more than a year to focus on his first full-length project, Josué has returned with ‘Terco’ and a new contract with Sonido Muchacho.
‘Terco’ tells the story of a person who feels persecuted by someone unknown. Spoiler: it turns out to be his own shadow. “The silhouette of a stranger follows me / Could it be that he saw my body dancing to the rhythm of a gunshot?” sings the Mexican.
The song starts off like a cannon, with a catchy riff accompanied by a drum machine. It could be reminiscent of Markusiano’s work, accentuated by Josué’s deep voice, but with a more immediate and fiery point. The label has indicated that the album, titled ‘The House That Falls’ and with a release date in early 2025, is “one of the best we have ever released.”
La Texana will be at the Sala Siroco in Madrid on October 29 and at the Heliogàbal in Barcelona on November 1. Tickets now available.
